J.R.R. Tolkien and the Religious Imagination

This course explores the life and writings of J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), Catholic Oxford scholar and influential author of fiction (notably The Lord of the Rings) and non-fiction works in literature and religious imagination (notably "On Fairy-stories"). The course examines Tolkien's classic and also lesser-known writings, which engage key themes in religion, literature, and modern culture. (T) PREREQ: 18 university credits (lec 3) cr 3.
